Hear My Story Adur WorthingHear My Story aims towards developing into a Poverty Truth Commission. The development of a Poverty Truth Commission is based on the recognition that the Black Civil Rights Movement in the USA would not have made progress had white people dominated its leadership. Similarly, the Feminist Movements and Disability Movements would not have achieved what they have, had men or able-bodied people alone been at the heart of all. And so a movement to tackle poverty needs to include those who are experienced at its heart, if real change is to be achieved. Nothing about Us, without Us, is for Us.
|
Ultimately Hear My Story will include:
a) People with stories to tell: "Experts by experience" of poverty
b) People of influence who will listen to and work with these stories
The founders of the Hear My Story-Adur Worthing are local people, deeply affected by the growing poverty in our community. Matt, Wayne, Leslie and Robin are facilitating the process of setting all up towards a Poverty truth Commission, after which we will hand over to the Commission. We will continue to provide a support role to the Commission, at the Commission's request.
