Nothing about Us, without Us, is for Us"
Hear My Story-Adur Worthing
The requirement to work towards the formation of a local Adur and Worthing Poverty Truth Commission arose out of the June 2016 Shoreham Poverty Hearing.
Hear My Story its work and aims towards PTC will breathe new life into building resilience and new relations of trust with civic leaders, other decision-makers (such as business with local people directly in poverty), those socially excluded and those vulnerable to work together in a fully participatory environment. |
The purpose of Hear My Story
1) To provide a progressive space for decision makers and people living in poverty and experiencing exclusion to:
2) To act as a platform towards better communication and understanding of the work of the local authority and other civic and local decision makers, breaking down barriers. |
The envisaged process of working towards an Adur Worthing Poverty Truth Commission is:
• To bring together two distinct groups of people: senior civic and business leaders; and an equal number of people who struggle against poverty on a daily basis who are representative of local NGOs in the community.
• To run over a 2-year period, with an option for the wider community to seek a new term if required.
• Will set no pre-conditions - on shared work between the two different groups of commissioners; and making policy proposals around key areas of anti-poverty.
Hear My Story working towards an AWPTC seeks to be representative. We seek representation from all political parties, all faiths as well as those with no political or faith affiliation. This said, the Commission itself is a neutral entity- all members leave their religion, politics, organisational background at the door, focusing on our shared humanity and a commitment to address poverty and exclusion.
Funding will be sought via local community grants and national grants ans possible joint funding bids.
